چکیده
Background: Neuropsychiatric symptoms in patients with frontotemporal dementia (FTD) are highly prevalent and may complicate clinical managements. Objective: We tested whether the Neuropsychiatry Inventory (NPI) could detect change neuropsychiatric caregiver´s distress diagnosed behavioral variant (bvFTD) Alzheimer’s disease (AD) from baseline to a 12-month follow-up. Methods: The sample consisted of 31 bvFTD 28 AD their caregivers. A sociodemographic questionnaire, Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE), Addenbrooke´s Cognitive Revised (ACE-R), INECO Frontal Screening (IFS), Assessment Battery (FAB), Executive Interview (EXIT-25) were used. Results: total (NPI Total) caregiver Distress score statistically higher among at both assessment points. MMSE, ACE-R scores significantly declined NPI Total increased groups. Age was only independent predictor variable for group follow up. In group, EXIT-25, conjunctively, associated Conclusion: Knowing how evolve over course help clinician decisions regarding future management therapeutic approaches.

Orbitofrontal Dysfunction Discriminates Behavioral Variant Frontotemporal Dementia from Alzheimers Disease
Background: Behavioral variant frontotemporal dementia (bvFTD) patients show prefrontal cortex dysfunction and atrophy. Methods: We investigated whether executive function in conjunction with prefrontal cortex atrophy discriminates bvFTD and Alzheimer’s disease (AD) patients efficiently at presentation. Results: AD and bvFTD patients were distinguishable by 89.5% on their performance of 3 execu...

OBJECTIVE To identify distinct behavioral phenotypes of behavioral-variant frontotemporal dementia (bvFTD) and to elucidate differences in functional, neuroimaging, and progression to residential care placement. METHODS Eighty-eight patients with bvFTD were included in a cluster analysis applying levels of disinhibition and apathy (Cambridge Behavioural Inventory-Revised) to identify phenotyp...
متن کاملNeuropsychiatric Characteristics of Alzheimer's Disease and the Behavioral Variant of Frontotemporal Dementia
Neurodegenerative dementias that occur in adults can present with significant behavioral symptoms in addition to the cognitive syndrome. These can be disruptive for the families who take care for these patients and cause a significant burden on the medical system. The incidence of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is frequently greater in patients over 65 years of age, whereas the behavioral variant of ...
متن کاملProgression in Behavioral Variant Frontotemporal Dementia: A Longitudinal Study.
IMPORTANCE A gap in the literature exists regarding progression in behavioral variant frontotemporal dementia (BVFTD). Guidance is needed concerning markers that will enable clinicians to discriminate FTD more effectively from phenocopies and to identify factors that determine progression and thereby prognosis. OBJECTIVES To observe longitudinal outcomes and progression in probable and possib...
متن کاملPsychosis in behavioral variant frontotemporal dementia
BACKGROUND Dementia is generally characterized by cognitive impairment that can be accompanied by psychotic symptoms; for example, visual hallucinations are a core feature of dementia with Lewy bodies, and delusions are often seen in Alzheimer's disease. However, for behavioral variant of frontotemporal dementia (bvFTD), studies on the broad spectrum of psychotic symptoms are still lacking. The...
